LPG automobiles running on LP gas fuel have a reputation for the merits of high environmental performance and low fuel consumption, and there are approximately 270,000 units (as of FY 2010) in practical commercial application, with taxi companies taking the lead. Toward the future, efforts are simultaneously being made by auto manufacturers in the diffusion of the advanced type direct fuel injected engine and practical use of LPG hybrid vehicles while the public and private sectors are working together on expansion of diffusion policies.
